The setting is prohibition, a time of organized crime, bootlegging alcohol and illicit hidden barrooms otherwise know as a speakeasy. During the Prohibition era in the 1920s, when the government banned alcohol, illegal speakeasies arose as a means to continue selling alcohol. These barrooms were often glamorous and illicit places to hang out – clandestine entertainment venues, where jazz, booze, and youth culture flourished. Join us for a fascinating tour of Eau Claire Distillery’s new Speakeasy. Your tour will begin with a welcome cocktail. While you sip, you’ll learn about Alberta’s place in Prohibition history. You’ll also enjoy a tasting flight of Eau Claire’s finest, $5.00 in Eau Claire bucks and a souvenir glass.

After the Speakeasy tour, you’ll learn how to make the perfect cocktail, with a recipe concocted just for Way Out West Fest. You and your companions will be led by one of Eau Claire’s expert mixologists in the making of delectable cocktail creations, and don’t expect this to be some bathtub gin (prohibition speak for moonshine) – you’ll be fixing this handcrafted cocktail with one of the Distillery’s award-winning liquors and local ingredients. Your cocktail in hand, you’ll be treated to a properly served cohort charcuterie board made with Trails End Beef and Springbank Cheese.

Eau Claire Distillery is set in the original Wild West – the foothills of Alberta, and led by the man with the vision, founder, David Farran. Combined with deep historical roots in Alberta farming and ranching, David’s hobby of farming with draft horses seems a perfect combination – thus Eau Claire was born with an immediate pedigree – a true farm-to-glass, certified farm award-winning distillery, where grain is produced using 100 year old horse farming methods – a first in North America.

DETAILS: You’ll meet at 3:45 p.m. at Eau Claire Distillery in Turner Valley, Alberta. Event begins at 4:00 p.m. with the speakeasy tour. After the tour you’ll learn how to mix your own WOW Fest cocktail, during a guided mixology class where you’ll make two handcrafted cocktails with local ingredients and enjoy a cohort charcuterie treat and the bliss of a late afternoon in the foothills of Alberta. All supplies, beverages and food included.
